  • Why does my diesel vehicle have a DPF filter?

Typically, diesel cars emit more particulate matter and noxious emissions than petrol equivalents do.

To combat this, diesel vehicles are fitted with a diesel particulate filter (DPF).

A DPF will remove diesel particulate matter or soot from the exhaust fumes of a diesel engine.

  • Why is my engine warning light on?

Diesel drivers who predominantly drive in urban areas can be faced with blocked DPFs, and if ignored, can result in £££ thousands of pounds worth of damage.

  • What happens if I continue to ignore the warning light?

Most manufacturers' warranties will not cover the cost if the fault is deemed to have been caused by the owner’s driving style and not by a fault with the filter itself, leaving you potentially facing a four- figure bill.

  • How do I resolve this?

If your DPF is blocked, and active regeneration is no longer possible (this is when the vehicle tries to automatically clean the filter), a professional DPF clean is required.

  • How often should the DPF filter be cleaned?

We recommend cleaning every 50,000 to keep your filter and engine healthy and fit for purpose.

  • Should I remove my DPF to save money and hassle?

There are legal implications for removing filters including fines, MOT fails and invalid insurance
